EzWinScore® SupportPLEASE NOTE: Effective August 10th, the USPSA Match Results and Classification Upload system will NOT accept any data from any version of EzWinScore prior to 4.03. This is necessary to lay the framework for support of some new website functionality that USPSA has planned. |

| I want to install 4.0 on my Windows 95, 98, or Windows ME system. |
Sorry, you can't. EzWinScore will only run on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Part of the project of creating 3.0 and 4.0 was to upgrade USPSA's copy of the language in which EzWinScore is written, Powerbuilder, to the latest version. We had previously been running a 12-year old copy of Powerbuilder that was issued just as the first version of Windows 95 came out, and frankly we're surprised it continued to run as long as it did. To have access to any sort of vendor support for the development environment, and honestly to make sure Powerbuilder and its generated applications like EzWinScore would keep running as operating systems continued to be improved, we were logically compelled to upgrade to a current version. That meant the generated compiled code was targeted for modern computers with Unicode-enabled operating systems. Most modern software compilers no longer create programs for older operating systems because of the shift to Unicode-enabled operating systems and you will find less and less commercial products on the shelf that run on any of the Win9X/ME machines. And honestly, if you're running Windows 9x, you're backleveled 4 to 6 full versions of the operating system and are REALLY missing out on what Windows can do for you now. |
| Can my 4.0 match file or masternames.db file be read by my friend who is still running EzWinScore 2.29 on his computer? |
No, it can't. Significant record layout changes have been made to the match files and also the masternames.db file in 4.0 and as a result, they are not backward compatibile with EzWinScore 2.29 and before. The database server used in EzWinScore 4.0 is also different than that used in 2.x and represents an additional reason why legacy EzWinScore's can't read 4.0 files. |
| Do I have to do anything special to convert my 2.29 match files and masternames.db file to 4.0? |
Not really. A match file created with EzWinScore 2.x is converted automatically converted to 4.0 the first time you open it. You ARE offered the opportunity to retain a copy of legacy version of the file, in which case it is called something like <yourfilename>OLD.db. If the masternames.db file is from 2.x when you first launch EzWinScore 4.0, a conversion dialog will come up as shown and wait for you to press the "convert" cmdbutton to start the conversion process. An "old" copy of the file is not retained in this particular case. |
| Does my existing match.db file, located in the same folder along with the program, get converted to the new 4.0 format? |
No, it doesn't. It gets renamed to matchold.db, just in case you happened to have an actual scored match therein. Honestly, however, it's a bad practice to score your matches in the default match.db file. That's not what it is for. The match.db file is intended as a template file that contains your default club information (name and clubcode) and is used by the "File.New Match" menu pulldown function or the "Create a new (empty) match database" toolbar icon to set up your match file in a location of your choosing, preferably somewhere other than where the program itself resides. The match.db file should NEVER be used to actually score a match.

| I registered a competitor twice (or I registered "Joe Shooter 2nd Gun" manually without a USPSA number and then went back in and added the number), and he doesn't show up as a re-entry. |
To re-register a competitor for a classifier reshoot (very common for special classifier matches) or to reshoot the entire match with a second gun (Level 1 matches only), first register the competitor in his chosen division for official match score. Then register him again with the same name and USPSA number, either in the same division or a different division.
So as we've seen, re-entries that are properly registered as such will be clearly denoted in the match results, and other procedures like naming the re-entrant "Joe Shooter (2nd Gun)" are neither necessary nor desirable. Manually registering a re-entrant in any way other than as intended by the system can also result in classifier reshoot attempts not being reported correctly in the activity upload and are not supported. |
| My Windows Firewall is complaining about EzWinScore 4.0. What should I do? |
|
I am trying to set up a new match by clicking File, then New Match. After I type in the match name ("2010 United States Practical Shooting Association Area Six Grand Championship and So-On and So-Forth") and click the save button, I get an error message saying my filename is too long. This used to work. What changed? |
EzWinScore changed as did Microsoft Windows. The Microsoft™ Windows™ operating system limits the length of ODBC Data Source Names to 32 characters. Because EzWinScore uses the file name you enter as the internal Data Source Name, you should limit the length of file names to 29 characters.
Starting with version 3.0 EzWinScore will no longer let this happen, as illustrated above, but it is possible that you might have issues opening a legacy match file with a really long filename. If you do (and you probably will), try renaming the filename to something shorter and then try again. |
| I've been to the Nationals and was given a sheet of generic competitor labels that we carried from stage to stage. Can I produce those for my own match at home? |
You can now! They're available under the Reports->Labels pulldown menu beginning with EzWinScore 3.0. Simply select "Generic" under the "Select label type" control group and put in how many labels you want for each competitor, and there you are.
You can also fine-tune your labels as to how you want them printed out.
One other useful benefit of the generic labels is that you use them for a 3-gun tournament, that is, a shooting event made up of 3 separate matches (rifle, pistol, and shotgun) where the final scores are determined off of the aggregate results. The regular competitor stage labels have been useless for this type of event, as they only printed for the individual stages and wouldn't print all three sets of match labels together. Now you can just tell EzWinScore to print "x" number of generic labels for your 3-gun tournament and be done with it! |
| I want to score a match using Palm devices and PSS. |
![]() Good! We're ready for you. Documentation has been added here on setting up to score a match using Palm™ devices as input to EzWinScore. Written by Scott Chapman of Green Mountain Practical Shooters, it is a step-by-step list of how to set up your central computer and the Palm™ devices to score a match. Click here. |
We ran a Special Classifier but the USPSA Activity Report shows only one classifier instead of the four it should show. |
|
I've entered a competitor in Open and Limited divisions, but only the Open score shows up in the match results. How do I get the Limited score to show up? |
USPSA rule 6.2.4 reads, "Subject to the prior approval of the Match Director, a competitor may enter a match in more than one Division. However, the competitor may compete for match score in only one Division, and that must be the first attempt in all cases. Any subsequent attempts in another Division will not count for match recognition."
Regardless of the "Include reentries" check box, all classifiers score at all level matches will be included on classifier summary sheets and in the classifier upload file. Please click here for an additional FAQ on competitor re-entries. |
